This is a thoughtful and well researched piece - and this is coming from someone who believes in strong borders and will likely vote red come November.

I wonder if there is room for Christians who disagree about how to handle the national border to collaborate locally to care for immigrants and refugees. I would wager that while we may disagree on many issues of national policy, it would be fruitful to discuss how the Church might serve the many immigrants that are already here (for better or for worse). Perhaps in doing so, we may grow closer to immitating that "most perfect school of Christ" which Knox once wrote about.

Thanks for this thoughtful feedback. While it is difficult to "set politics aside," I do wish we could have more conversations about the Church's responsibility to existing immigrant populations as you suggest here. Following the Reformed tradition and passages like Deuteronomy 15, Scripture requires that we both advocate for just laws and exhibit a personal commitment to justice for the vulnerable. While we may disagree on what the former looks like, my hope would be there is a great deal of overlap on the latter.

I appreciate the research and careful thought that clearly went behind this post. It's well-rounded with a lot of terrific points that are so important for believers to be considering, especially in today's inflammatory climate with so much rhetoric that it sometimes hard to see the issues clearly. Thank you.

You may be deemed a communist and radical in some reformed circles, isn’t that interesting? Great work on this piece. I learned a lot! It is very close to home in many ways.

I have found that many reformed types do not know their tradition and thus know little about being reformed. I am glad you found the piece helpful!

It is one thing when people fleeing problems come to our borders. It is another thing when the current administration is flying people in to create a Democratic majority which will keep them in perpetual power, and to which the rape and murder of Americans is just "collateral damage. "
